Located near the center of town at 11 Deerfield Road
in Candia, NH, the Candia Fire-Rescue Station is rich in history and
tradition. It was constructed in 1939 after the town hall, where the
fire apparatus was stored, was ironically destroyed by fire. The
fire apparatus was spared from the inferno, but a new building was needed
to protect them. This same building still stands nearly 65 years
later. Modifications began in 1965 when the increased height of
modern firefighting apparatus forced the raising of the entire station
approximately two feet. This was a major project, but it was
completed with the help of the entire membership of the department.
As the department grew, the station began to feel quite cramped. In
1975, a third bay was added to the north side of the building. A
hose tower, used to hang and dry hose after use, was built by the
membership in 1980. After braving nearly 52 brutal New Hampshire
winters, the exterior of the building was completely remodeled in 1991,
again through the hard work of the all-volunteer membership. The
most recent addition to the exterior of the building was in 1994 when a
fourth engine bay was added to the south side of the building. In
2003, the kitchen was completely remodeled, which included the replacement
of appliances, countertops, and floors. The station currently has
four engine bays, a dispatch/administration office, an SCBA/communications
office, an EMS office, a gear room, a hose tower, a large kitchen and
meeting space, and ample storage for large amounts of training equipment.
